Upminster RDA

Description:

We are volunteers who provide riding experiences for disabled young people and adults. The young people all come from local special schools and the adults come mainly from the local area. We work at Colmar Farm Stables near Brentwood which has an indoor facility for horse riding so that riding can take place throughout the year despite the English weather.

We provide all the necessary training for volunteers ( helpers and sidewalkers ). You do not have to have any horse riding skills to be a volunteer.

Benefits of horse riding:

Our riders can have any or several of the following:

autistic spectrum disorders, celebral palsy, stroke victims, development delay, Downs Syndrome, language and/or learning disabilities.

The riding can result in a new freedom of movement, improving muscle tone, improving coordination, retaining mobility, gaining confidence, building relationships, developing social and communication skills.

In addition to the above mentioned benefits riders can achieve certification for a variety of activities. They can follow an ASDAN programme that contributes to examination board qualifications.

ASDAN stands for Award Scheme Development & Accreditation Network

Finally riding can be FUN !
