Bury Bombers Wheelchair Basketball Club

Description:

The Club meets weekly during term time on a Thursday evening at Culford Sports and Tennis Centre; details are available on the website.

We pride ourselves on being a family friendly club and are quite unique in offering sessions to all ages and abilities. We welcome new members at any time, but ask that you contact Jill on 01284 728458 or 07766 817685 to ensure there is a wheelchair available for you.

The Club offers sessions once a month for children aged 4 - 8. Older children and teenagers come along on a weekly basis and join in the sessions relevant to their age and ability. Adults are coached from beginner level and have the opportunity to work with players who are part of the current national league team.

We are proud of our Charity Status and for being the first Club in Great Britain to receive ClubMark at Silver level from the National Governing Body, British Wheelchair Basketball. Bury Bombers has a responsibility for creating a safe, fun and inclusive environment for everyone to participate in wheelchair basketball, therefore the club follows the BWB Safety Nets Policy.

Membership of the Club is very easy; download a membership form and, after reading the Code of Conduct, complete and sign the form and bring it along to your first session. If you can't do this, don't worry. Come along for your first session and we will issue you with the relevant documentation for completion. There is no membership fee; just a weekly subscription that can be paid in advance or on the day. But don't forget to ring Jill before turning up to ensure there is a wheelchair  available for you.

We are always looking to increase our number of volunteers. So if a family member or friend would like to help, just let us know. The Club is run entirely by volunteers, none of whom are paid, but there is always a cuppa available and time for a friendly chat. They may even get a chance to try this exciting sport!
The Club is run by a committee who act as Trustees. Elections occur on a yearly basis at the AGM in July.

Bury Bombers is always looking to attract funding to provide bespoke basketball wheelchairs as well as maintaining those the Club already owns. Additionally, we run events to promote the sport and provide opportunities for everyone to take part - this also requires funding. Outreach work in schools and colleges is organised through JA's Roadshowsand corporate events are are also available.

The Club uses Facebook and Twitter to keep everyone updated.

We hope you have found this page helpful and look forward to hearing from you.
